Helwith Bridge Duathlon
Helwith Bridge Duathlon - 4m / 23m / 4m
Somewhere back in early August I wrote,
"I've had half an eye on this as a first duathlon? Views, comments...."
A day later I wrote,
"Sod it! 20 miles on the bike today - not sure I could run 4 miles now though.... I've entered...."
And so it happened that I lined up for the Helwith Bridge Duathlon. I went out fairly hard on the run, and wondered early on whether I might have gone out a bit too hard. In hindsight I don't think it would have made any difference. Out on the bike I was quickly overtaken by a significant number of riders, but I'd known from the outset that this would be my downfall. Back in for the second transition and my legs nearly buckled when I climbed off the bike. It was as much as I could do too walk the bike back into the transition area. The second run passed remarkably quickly and I managed to pull back a handful of the places that I'd lost on the bike section. The splits for the three legs tells the story.
1st run - equal 3rd fastest
Bike - 38th fastest
2nd run - 6th fastest
Finishing 18th overall (discounting the winners who competed as a relay team) was a good performance I reckon. I might be back for more!
